$5.6 Million Medical Malpractice Settlement for a 6-Year-Old Made Blind

October 18th, 2011 by Wapner Newman

Medical malpractice lawyer in Allentown, Steven Wigrizer, a partner with Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer & Brecher, settled a medical malpractice claim involving a six-year-old boy who was rendered permanently blind due to defendants’ failure to perform timely serial eye reexaminations for retinopathy of prematurity, or ROP. Mr. Wigrizer was able to prove that had these re-examinations been carried out, the serious and progressive nature of the child’s ROP would certainly have been identified and prompt surgical intervention would have halted the retinopathy’s progression and preserved the child’s vision.
