Partner Wins $6.5 Million Settlement in Premises Liability Case

July 9th, 2014 by Wapner Newman

Steven G. Wigrizer, a partner at Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer, Brecher & Miller, P.C., obtained a lucrative settlement in a premises liability action against a local university. Mr. Wigrizer’s client was rendered a paraplegic after being supplied a defective bunk bed in a negligent manner.

Partner Wigrizer reached a $6.5 Million settlement after arguing that the university was negligent in providing a defective bunk bed to a known epileptic. Mr. Wigrizer, along with associate, Jason Scott Weiss, were able to reach a settlement with the university after defeating a motion for summary judgment. Mr. Wigrizer successfully argued that the client did not assume the risk of injury, but instead that it was the responsibility of the university to provide reasonably safe living accommodations for its students.
