Grandparents of Children in Philadelphia Dungeon Case Seek Custody

The parents of 29-year-old Tamara Breeden – one of the four mentally-disabled victims found chained and malnourished in a Tacony basement last weekend – are currently seeking custody of their two grandchildren, whom Tamara gave birth to while in captivity. Personal injury attorney, Steven G. Wigrizer is representing the grandparents, Peggy and Wilbert Wanamaker.

Steven Wigrizer was interviewed about this case on Dr. Phil. Click here to see the interview.

Although the Wanamakers were reunited with their daughter shortly after her rescue, they have still never laid eyes on their grandchildren, who were placed in protective custody last week with the Department of Human Services. The children are believed to be ages 2 and 7, respectively. The DHS is currently performing DNA tests to confirm the children’s identities.

The Wanamakers believe the DNA tests will come to the same conclusion they have: that the children are Tamara’s. They plan to petition for temporary custody in court.

Tamara Breeden’s Disappearance

The Wanamakers have not seen their daughter Tamara since her disappearance in 2003. Vicky Weston, the sister of 51-year-old suspect Linda Ann Weston, told the Wanamakers in 2003 that she believed Linda had kidnapped Breeden and her boyfriend, Edwin Sanabria. Peggy Wannamaker contacted police at the time to investigate the situation, but it is unclear what action was taken as a result.

On October 15, 2011, over eight years later, Breeden, Sanabria, and two other victims were found locked in a small 15-foot-by-6-foot room without any food, and with only a bucket serving as a toilet. Authorities believe that Weston kept Breeden and the other victims imprisoned in order to steal their Social Security checks.

Weston is currently facing charges of:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • False imprisonment
  • Kidnapping
  • Criminal trespass
  • Unlawful restraint
