Partner Wigrizer Settles Case Involving Blinded Child
Philadelphia and Allentown, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
Steven Wigrizer, a partner at Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer, Brecher & Miller settled a case involving a child who was blinded due to the negligence of a hospital and its medical personnel. The child was born with a condition of premature infants called retinopathy of prematurity, which can cause total blindness if not properly monitored and treated. It was argued that the hospital’s medical team responsible for the child’s care during her inpatient admission did not inform her parents she had a potentially blinding disease, provided substandard treatment, and failed to ensure the child received the follow up treatment and procedures necessary to preserve her eyesight. As a result of the defendants’ negligence, the child was permanently blinded by a condition which is otherwise treatable. The case settled prior to trial for a confidential sum, and the child will now have sufficient funds to sustain the lifelong care she needs.
