Partner Steven Wigrizer Reaches Settlement in Medical Malpractice Case
Philadelphia and Allentown, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
Steven G. Wigrizer, a partner with Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer & Brecher, has reached a confidential settlement in a case involving the death of a 63-year-old woman. The woman was admitted to the hospital for a bleeding ulcer. In an effort to protect her airways, she was intubated. When she was ultimately extubated, she experienced respiratory distress, at which time she was reintubated by a CRNA and a student nurse. Unfortunately, the intubation was not performed properly, as the woman's esophagus, or food pipe, was intubated as opposed to her trachea, or windpipe. This caused the woman to go into cardiovascular collapse from which she never recovered. The case was settled following jury selection and opening statements.
