Partner Wigrizer Reaches $1.6 Million Settlement in Methadone Overdose Case During Trial
July 21st, 2014 by Wapner Newman
Steven G. Wigrizer, a partner at Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer, Brecher & Miller, P.C., reached a settlement in a wrongful death and survival action against a methadone clinic. Partner Wigrizer served as the attorney for the Estate of a client who passed away as the result of a methadone overdose and a failure to provide proper medical care. The case was tried for three and one half days prior to the settlement.
Partner Wigrizer obtained a $1.6 Million settlement for the woman’s family through tireless preparation for the medical malpractice case, which included the selection of a jury and the introduction of victim testimony by the deceased’s husband and children. Among other facts, Mr. Wigrizer was able to show that despite being a patient at a methadone clinic, the victim was entitled to the same rights and medical treatment as everyone else. A settlement was able to be reached after the Estate’s case was presented.
The experienced medical malpractice attorneys at Wapner Newman take the distribution of methadone and the dangers involved with methadone usage very seriously.
