$6 Million Settlement for Medical Negligence
Philadelphia and Allentown, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
Steven Wigrizer, a partner at Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer, Brecher & Miller, settled a case for six million dollars ($6,000,000.00) involving a young man suffering from schizophrenia who sought treatment for his suicidal thoughts at the defendant hospital. The hospital negligently discharged the man from its care in a psychotic state, and the very next day, received similarly negligent treatment from his outpatient psychiatrist who dismissed his psychosis, neglected to evaluate his current suicide risk, and failed to re-admit him for inpatient treatment. Hours after the appointment, he attempted suicide by jumping out of a second story window and is now living as a quadriplegic. The case settled just prior to trial.
