$1 Million Settlement for Child who Suffered Brachial Plexus Injury at Delivery Complicated by Shoulder Dystocia
Philadelphia and Allentown, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
Birth injury attorney in Philadelphia, Marc Brecher has obtained a $1,000,000 settlement for a child who suffered a severe brachial plexus injury at birth. This injury was due to a complication known as a shoulder dystocia. During a shoulder dystocia, a baby’s shoulder becomes stuck in the mother’s birth canal. In this case, Brecher was successful in arguing that the obstetricians who delivered this child exerted excessive force on the baby’s head and neck during the delivery, which resulted in a permanent injury to the child’s brachial plexus nerves. The brachial plexus nerves are located in the neck and control arm, hand and elbow function. As a result of this child’s brachial plexus injury, the child has limited use of her arm and elbow.
